Lehigh Wal-Mart bomb scare called aversion by Sheriff’s investigators
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office today reported that on Tuesday, June 15 at around 4:53 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the Lehigh Acres Wal-Mart at 2523 Lee Blvd. regarding a reference to a man called the store and said there was a bomb in the food section. The store was evacuated as deputies arrived on scene to conduct a search, officials said.. Nothing harmful was found during the search and the store reopened a short time later.
As deputies were responding to the Wal-Mart, an armed robbery occurred at the Homestead Pharmacy, located at 1320 Homestead Road in Lehigh. The victim said at approximately 5 p.m., two individuals armed with weapons entered the store demanding Oxycodone and Xanax pills. Once the suspects obtained the pills they were looking for, they fled on foot, authorities said.
Deputies arrived on scene and established a perimeter. Both suspects, identified as Casey G. Commander, 28, and Andrew James Edgell, 25, were apprehended a short distance from the pharmacy.
Robbery Unit detectives determined Commander and Edgell made the bomb threat in order to create a diversion while they robbed the pharmacy. Both individuals have been charged with one count of robbery with a weapon. Additional charges are pending, investigators said.
Both suspects have a listed address of 107 N. Oregon Road, Lehigh Acres.
