FORT MYERS – After five scoreless innings in the final game of a three-game series between the Fort Myers Miracle (26-36) and the Palm Beach Cardinals (34-28), a torrential rainstorm swept through Hammond Stadium and play was suspended. The game will continue next Tuesday in Palm Beach and will be played as a normal nine-inning game, followed by a seven-inning double-header.
Miracle starting pitcher Liam Hendriks (4-1) was dealing – setting down the final 12 batters he faced. He allowed three hits and walked none, while striking out four.
After giving up two singles with one out in the first, Hendriks struck out Xavier Scruggs and Richard Racobaldo to hold down the Cardinals. In the second, he gave up a lead off double to Alex Castellanos before retiring Palm Beach in order the rest of the way.
He capped off his outing by striking out the final two batters he faced in the fifth.
Cardinals starter Mark Diapoules (5-1) gave up three hits in his five innings of work as well.
Fort Myers had its best scoring opportunity in the fourth, with Estarlin De Los Santos leading off the inning with a double. Nick Romero advanced him to third with a groundout to set up scoring opportunities for Chris Herrmann and Brian Dozier. But Diapoules struck out Herrmann and got Dozier to pop out to end the threat.
Any fans that attended the game Wednesday at Hammond Stadium can exchanged their ticket for any other Miracle home game, subject to availability.
The Miracle now head up to Charlotte Sports Park for a three-game series against the Stone Crabs starting Thursday night at 7.
