Miracle drop two to Cards

By Staff | Jun 22, 2010

JUPITER – The Fort Myers Miracle have to wait another day to try and pick up their first win of the season against the Palm Beach Cardinals. That’s because they dropped both games of a doubleheader Monday – 1-0 and 12-1.

The Miracle now are 0-9 against the Cardinals. The Miracle also have lost eight games in a row, their longest skid of the season.

Of the 12 runs scored by the Cardinals in game two, six crossed the plate due to three Miracle errors.

The Miracle scored their only run in the doubleheader in the fourth inning of game two on an RBI single by Nick Romero, who was a combined 4-for-6 in the two games.

Making his first start since May 14, Miracle starting pitcher Bruce Pugh (2-5) could not get out of the second inning in the opener. He was activated off of the disabled list Monday and gave up seven runs (three earned) on four hits in 1 1/3 innings.

With a runner at third base and one out, Nick Romero fielded a routine ground ball and threw wildly to first base allowing the winning run to score in the opener.

Tuesday, the teams pick up last Wednesday’s suspended game in the sixth inning, followed by a nine-inning game.
