JUPITER – The Fort Myers Miracle had to wait until their 10th try of the season before finally earning their first win over the Palm Beach Cardinals.

The Miracle split a doubleheader with the Cardinals Tuesday, exchanging shutouts with the Miracle (27-42) winning 3-0 in the first game, and the Cardinals (39-30) taking the nightcap 5-0. The win also snapped a season-high eight-game losing streak for the Miracle.

The first game wasthe completion of a rain-suspended game that was scoreless through five innings last week at Hammond Stadium.

The Miracle went up 3-0 in the bottom of the seventh with three singles and some help from the Cardinals’ defense. Miracle relievers Blake Martin and Billy Bullock combined to no-hit the Cardinals over the final four innings.

Martin (2-2) allowed just one baserunner, a sixth-inning walk, in three innings. Bullock pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his 12th save of the year.

Chris Herrmann led off the seventh with a single up the middle. The Miracle put on the hit-and-run with Brian Dozier at the plate, and the Cardinals tried to get Herrmann at second on a ground ball to short which resulted in both runners reaching safely. Angel Morales tried to sacrifice the runners up a base, but as Cardinals catcher Charlie Cutler fielded the ball in front of home plate, no one was covering first, resulting in the bases loaded with no outs.

Nate Hanson then grounded to third baseman Richard Racobaldo, whose throw to the plate sailed high, allowing two runners to score. Deibinson Romero added an RBI single to put the Miracle up 3-0.

The second game went scoreless through four innings before the Cardinals broke through against Miracle starter Dan Osterbrock in the fifth. After a two-out walk to Colt Sedbrook, Chris Swauger doubled him home to put the Cardinals up 1-0.

Osterbrock (3-6) gave up one unearned run in the sixth inning before exiting after seven for the tough loss. The left-hander gave up six hits and walked two while striking out three.

The Cardinals added their final three runs in the eighth-inning against Miracle reliever Joe Testa.

Making his debut in the Florida State League, Cardinals stater Scott Schneider (1-0) tossed six shutout innings for the victory.

The teams will wrap up their series and the first half of the Florida State League season at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday.

The Miracle open the second half at Hammond Stadium Thursday against the South Division first-half champion Charlotte Stone Crabs.
