July programs at East County Regional Library

Next month’s roster of activities at East County Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

ADULTS

English Caf

10 a.m. Fridays, July 2, 23, 30

Practice your English with English Cafe, a free, conversation session for

adult ESOL and ESL students. Each 90-minute session provides adult learners an

opportunity to practice speaking English with native speakers. Participants

may start at any time. Advanced registration is not necessary.

Book Discussion: Malcolm Gladwell’s “Outliers: The Story of Success”

3:30 p.m. Monday, July 12

Read “Outliers: The Story of Success” by Malcolm Gladwell and discuss it with

fellow community members. The East County Book Discussion Group is open to all.

Chess Anyone?

4 p.m. Mondays, July 12, 19, 26

Rise to the chess challenge and join the fun. Everyone is welcome. Bring a

personal chess set, if preferred. Sponsored by the Friends of the East County

Regional Library.

Credit Care

6 p.m. Wednesday, July 14

Join Dawn Russell from the Consumer Credit Counseling Service for a free and

informative program on credit management. Learn strategies to maintain a

healthy and accurate credit history.

FAMILY

Family Storytime

6:30 p.m. Tuesdays, July 6, 13, 20

10 a.m. Wednesdays, July 7, 14, 21

This program is for the whole family and lasts about 30 minutes.

Baby-Parent Rhyme Time

10 a.m. Saturday, July 10

Be prepared to tickle, jump and fly with your baby! These rhymes and songs are

for infants, up to 24 months, accompanied by an adult. This 20-minute program

is filled with songs designed to introduce rhyming and movement to infants.

KIDS

Children’s Drama Workshop – Libba Cotten and the Rumbling Freight Train

4:30 p.m. Wednesdays, July 7, 14, 21, 28

Rehearsal and practice attendance is mandatory. Based on “Libba Cotten and the

Rumbling Freight Train: A Musical Drama.” This is the true story of the little

girl who wrote the world-famous song. For ages 5 – 16. Registration is

required.

Kids Read Down Fines

3 p.m. Saturday, July 24

Children and teens can earn a $2 coupon for every 15 minutes of reading during

the allotted time in the designated area of the library. For ages 18 and

younger. Coupons may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under

only.
