Our Daily Bread Ministry takes new direction

By Staff | Jul 1, 2010

To The Editor:

Tom and Laurel Foryt, co-chairs of the Christ UMC Mission Committee, met with the Our Daily Bread volunteers on Monday, June 21, to discuss the new

direction of Our Daily Bread. The ODB Advisory Committee has charged the volunteers with creating a loving, caring, nurturing place where people feel

the Lord’s love and support. The volunteers are happy to accept this charge.

Ben Bendola has volunteered to stand in as cook and kitchen manager until the July 6 committee meeting. He will continue for another 90 days after July 6

if the ODBAC approves.

We have just served Ben’s Real Italian Spaghetti with

meat balls and sweet Italian Sausage, fresh sweet corn and fresh garden salad with Balsamic Honey dressing as well as fresh garlic bread and pie.

The rave reviews were awesome so we anticipate word spreading about our new cook. And the cook says it would never have been the same without the fresh produce from the First Baptist Church.

Until the ODBAC meets again on July 6, we will be serving a hot meal on Monday. We will offer the food pantry on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from noon

to 1:15 p.m., as well as drink, dessert and sandwiches on Wednesday and Friday.

We will be open on July 5 even though it’s a holiday weekend.

Sweet Bay has allotted $1,000 in the Harry Chapin Food Bank account for Our Daily Bread.

Care will be taken in the shopping to have different products available for the homeless who have no access to cooking facilities.

We will be providing an accounting of our provisions and expenditures to the supportive churches on a monthly basis.

Everyone requesting food will be able to come as often as they wish until guidelines are established by Our daily Bread Advisory Committee (ODBAC).
