Fireworks in Lehigh cause house fire
Fire Marshal Ken Bennett of the Lehigh Acres Fire Dept. said a house fire Sunday night in the 3400 block of 13th St. W., at around 9:50 p.m. was probably caused by fireworks.
The owner told a battalion chief that he was lighting fireworks in the driveway when he believes one misfired and broke the front window of the house.
The man said he immediately heard “popping” from inside the structure and as soon as he approached the front door, the structure was on fire.
The home was fully involved when firefighters arrived. There was substantial damaged from smoke and fire to the interior of the house and it is not habitable, Bennett said.
The Red Cross provided assistance to the family and nobody was injured in the incident, Bennett said.
