Bachkora to join FGCU softball staff

By Staff | Jul 9, 2010

FGCU head softball coach Dave Deiros has announced the hiring of Alycia Bachkora as assistant softball coach. Bachkora joins the staff at FGCU after serving as a volunteer assistant at Kansas.

“Alycia has played and coached at the Division I level and will be a valuable asset to our coaching staff,” said Deiros. “She is very intelligent and diligent. She will be a tremendous role model and excellent teacher for our very young team.”

Bachkora’s primary responsibility on the field will be guiding the infielders on their defensive skills and assignments. She will also assist in the instruction of all aspects of hitting and offense. Her primary duties off the field will include recruiting, monitoring the academic progress of student-athletes, and helping lead the strength and conditioning program for the team.

“I’m very honored to get to work with such a successful and accomplished coach like coach Deiros,” said Bachkora. “I am excited at the prospect of working with such a young and talented team. Hopefully, my experiences as a player and a coach can help this team reach its full potential.”

An All-Missouri Valley second team selection her senior season, Bachkora was a four-year letter winner for the Braves’ softball team and was named to the MVC’s All-Tournament team in 2009. Bachkora also became Bradley’s single-season (10) home run record holder and career (16) home run record holder, while being named the school’s offensive player of the year and 4-D award (Determin-ation, Discipline, Dedica-tion and Desire) winner her senior year.

Bachkora, an Overland Park, Kan., native, graduated from Bradley University in May 2009. She returned to her home state and served as an assistant coach for the Wichita Mustangs softball club.
