Lehigh sees decrease in crime

By Staff | Jul 21, 2010

The Lehigh Bravo District has experienced a decrease in the crime rate since June 2009.

Bravo District Commander Captain Edward Tamayo said since 2009 such crimes like burglaries, auto theft and robbery have gone down for multiple reasons.

He said the police currently have a good working relationship with the community, which has helped in decreasing the crime rate in the district.

“Many citizens have become involved in calling in crime and suspicious circumstances,” Tamayo said.

Another reason for a decreased crime rate includes a drop in the population.

Tamayo said the sheriff has also provided the district with sufficient detectives and deputies to fight crime, which includes targeting repeat offenders.

The May 2010 crime in Bravo District has decreased by 15 percent, 22 percent in January 2010 and 7 percent in June 2009, he said.

In December 2008, the district experienced an increase in crime by 3 percent. The official UCR report should be out towards the end of July, Tamayo said.
