Lehigh Comp Plan meeting is Saturday
The kick-off of the second phase of the Lehigh Comp Plan will be held on Saturday, July 24 at the East County Regional Library from noon to 2 p.m. East County Regional Library is located on Gunnery Road just to the south of Lehigh Senior High School.
An explanation of the second phase will be rolled out by County Commissioner Frank Mann and several Lee County Planning staff members.
Down the road, the Lehigh Acres Community Planning Corporation (LACPC) anticipates creating its own Land Development Code, with specifics applying to development in Lehigh Acres only, according to Ed Weiner, LACPC chairman. That Code will become part of the Lee County Code (Chapter 33) and will govern how and what will be required of developers in the future, he said.
However, member Richard Georgian is expected to make a motion to end the LACPC at its next meeting in August. He said in an email that the mission to have a Lehigh Plan prepared has been met and there is no reason for the 14-member LACPC board to continue.
At Saturday’s meeting, it is believed that a five-member board will be recommended by county planners to set codes for Lehigh’s future.
The public is encouraged to attend Saturday’s meeting. Residents, businesses, corporate entities and civic groups all have a stake in the future development of Lehigh Acres, Weiner said. You are encouraged to make your voice heard, he said.
