Church asks for help in food, monetary donations

By Staff | Aug 3, 2010

To the Editor:

First Baptist Church of Lehigh was established in 1961 at 1102 Leeland Heights Blvd., E. in Lehigh Acres. The heart of this family oriented church is missions either local or worldwide.

Since the very beginning First Baptist had a food pantry. The very first pantry was too small book shelves located in a Sunday School class. These shelves were stocked by the contributions of the members of the church. We grew from reaching 20 to 300 families a month over the years.

Currently, our church is located at 507 Sunshine Blvd., N. Our congregation has grown and is now working to support the same food pantry at our former church which is now serving 10,193 meals in food per month.

We have partnered with Harry Chapin Food Bank and through our members’ generous donations, we are able to provide fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables, bread and staples for their families.

We are asking for your readers and the business community to join us on this mission to help those families in Lehigh, possibly your neighbors, your clients, your business associates, your staff who are struggling during these difficult days. We need cans of food, household products or monetary donations.

This has been an amazing journey and we know God has been blessing every move as they have been extraordinary. Who would have thought we could have fed more than 600 families per week out of our little pantry – only God.
