Lehigh does need codes and regulations
To the Editor:
Regarding the people who turned a meeting with county planners into what has been referred to as a “complaint session,” the reasons may be that the county didn’t make it clear about what codes are all about.
As I understand it, we need codes or regulations in different areas that are especially for Lehigh Acres now that we have a Lehigh Plan accomplished for the future of the community.
We need a group of people from various parts of the community to sit down with county planners and work to come up with a draft of such codes and or ordinances. The county had planned to have a board of five to seven people volunteer for such a board, but the people at the meeting complained about the very conditions that codes could help in this community.
We are not incorporated, but coming up with codes to make our community a desirable place to live is what we need. I hope the planning department in the county can come up with a group. They should just go ahead and ask the presidents of all the clubs and the pastors of all the churches to meet and come up with a group that fairly represents Lehigh.
We don’t need some of the people who want publicity and are trying to become politicians. We just need the good people of Lehigh to voice their opinions and the way it is being done now, according to the Citizen story is to email the planning department. Representatives from the Chamber of Commerce and from the Community Council would be good on the board. I do think the board should be no more than seven members.
It was amusing to watch Commissioner Frank Mann trying to get the crowd to discuss codes and the formation of a group. I think they all finally just gave up. But it was good to see such a large crowd there. The people here just need to understand more clearly what is being asked of them.
