Miracle drop 2 to Yankees

By Staff | Aug 3, 2010

The Fort Myers Miracle wound up losing a suspended game from Sunday 1-0 in 12 innings Monday, then managed just one hit in the nightcap to fall to the Tampa Yankees 7-0 at Hammond Stadium.

Yankees slugger Melky Mesa clubbed a three-run home run against Miracle starter Kane Holbrooks in the fifth inning to break a scoreless tie. Tampa added four runs after that, finishing with 13 hits in the shutout win.

The Yankees pitchers faced just 28 Miracle batters in the nightcap.

Nick Romero’s one-out single in the second inning was the only Miracle hit. The Miracle have gone scoreless in 24 consecutive innings.

The Miracle look to avoid a four-game sweep at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday at Hammond Stadium.
