Lehigh Acres Senior Center Country & Western Casino Day was a big hit for those who attended the event on Thursday, Aug. 5 on Plaza Drive with registration by Dance Hall Hostess Sharon Howen. Senior Citizen Center Director Teresa Perkins welcomed more than 80 guests and volunteers dressed in western gear amid bandanas, boots, hats, hay, and red, white and blue country decor.
Festivities started with the 11:30 a.m. First Lunch Round Up buffet line with two seatings on the patio. Games followed as cashiers distributed free players chips. The old saloon bar included non-alcoholic margaritas, strawberry daiquiris, pina coladas, coffee and “fire water” to wash down giant baked potatoes, broccoli, chili and all the fixings’. Vanilla pudding and cookies topped dessert. All afternoon, snacks and drinks were served by the red and black French costume clad Can Can Girls, Mary Bennett, Marlene Brodley, Lenore Delcastillo, Lucy Gucofski, Terry Hommen and Feliza Peruski between their shows on the stage and throughout the hall.
Casino-like games included Blackjack with dealers: Pat Chavalier, Liz Coxe, Connie DelRe; Horseracing with George McCollam, Roulette Wheel spun by Delores and Walter Crull; Poker with Jim Ederer and Lucy Gucofski; and Texas Hold Em with Bruce Holt. Bingo was called by Don Abbey and monitored by Kate Sasse.
