Bruce Pugh tossed seven strong innings, allowing just three hits, and the Fort Myers Miracle scored early and often Monday night in an 8-3 victory over the Jupiter Hammerheads at Hammond Stadium.

The Miracle (18-24) had 10 hits on the night, and the Jupiter staff issued nine walks and two wild pitches.

Jhonathan Goncalves and Nick Romero led the way, combining for six of the 10 hits. Goncalves, 21, finished a season-high 4-for-5 with a run scored. Romero was 2-for-4 with two doubles, 2 RBI, and a walk.

Pugh (6-8) cruised, scattering three hits across seven innings of work for the win. Jeremy Synan and Ben Lasater both cracked solo home runs, the only runs the Hammerheads would manage against Pugh. Tom Hickman added a double in the third to lead off the inning, but was stranded after Pugh stuck out two batters and got a fly out. The right-hander finished with six strikeouts, and walked just one.

The Miracle got the scoring started in the second against Jupiter starter Johnny Dorn. Romero led off the inning with his first double of the night, and later scored on a triple by Tobias Streich. Drew Thompson brought him home on a sacrifice fly.

The Miracle scored in five of eight innings. Jhon Garcia threw a five-pitch, 1-2-3 eight inning in relief of Pugh.

The Miracle face the Hammerheads Tuesday night.

Earlier Monday, the Minnesota Twins assigned first-round draft pick Alex Wimmers, 21, to the Miracle. The 6-foot-2 right-handed pitcher started 10 games for the Ohio State Buckeyes and was 9-0 with a 1.60 ERA (73 IP, 13ER).
