Walk-off walk lifts Miracle 3-2 in 11th

By Staff | Aug 12, 2010

First baseman Nate Hanson drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning Wednesday night as the Fort Myers Miracle topped the Jupiter Hammerheads 3-2.

The extra-inning win completes a three-game sweep of the Hammerheads at Hammond Stadium. It is only the second sweep by the Miracle this season. The last came June 24-26 against the Charlotte Stone Crabs.

Steve Blevins (3-4) picked up the win, working four innings of relief. After the Miracle took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the eighth, Blevins gave up a run in the ninth to send the game into extra innings, but kept the Hammerheads off the board the rest of the way.

Natividad Dilone (0-1) was saddled with the loss, issuing the game-ending four-pitch walk to Hanson in the 11th.

The Miracle (20-24) trailed 1-0 heading into the eighth and scored twice against Hammerheads reliever Ryan Tucker. Brian Dozier started the rally with a one-out double. He came home on a double by Nick Romero, tying the game 1-1. Tucker intentionally walked Hanson to loaded the bases for Chris Herrmann, who was hit-by-pitch to bring home the go-ahead run.

Miracle starter Matt Williams lasted seven innings, giving up just five hits and one run.

The Miracle remain five games behind Palm Beach in the South Division standings. They now head to Charlotte for the final three-game series at Charlotte Sports Park with the Stone Crabs.
