By Staff | Aug 19, 2010

Merencia Prelus

Merencia Prelus, assistant business administrator at Gateway Charter School has been named Team Member the Year by Charter Schools USA (CSUSA) at its annual Summit. The award is given to an individual who is nominated by peers for his or her professionalism and overall excellence. Once nominated, candidates are evaluated by sister schools where winning nominations are sent to the corporate executive team and ultimately the vice president of education for the final decision.

Although Prelus’ job description is assistant business administrator, she is known at the school for doing much more. Credited for her calm demeanor and can-do attitude, she was nominated based on her ability to find solutions and lend a hand whenever and wherever needed.

“Merencia is a true team player. She is a valuable asset to the staff and families of Gateway Charter School”, says Lorrie Davidson, vice president of finance for CSUSA.

A true Florida native, Prelus has worked in her current position at Gateway Charter School for two years. She received her associate’s degree in accounting and business management from Edison Community College and assists in all aspects of business administration at Gateway Charter School.
