Group to meet 10 a.m. to noon on Aug. 28 on codes for Lehigh Plan

As a result of the Saturday, July 25 meeting at the East County Regional Library which sought volunteers to help to come up with codes to implement into the Lehigh Acres Plan, some 50 people have come forward to offer their help.

Lee county Commissioner Frank Mann has announced a first “meeting in the implementation of the Lehigh Acres portion of the county’s comprehensive plan” on Saturday, Aug. 28 from 10 a.m. to noon at Veterans Park Community Center on Homestead Rd. South.

“This will be an organizational meeting to explain the planning effort and to discuss how this citizen group will be involved in the effort,” Mann said.

He also said he was pleased that so many people from Lehigh were at the meeting at the library to work for the betterment of the entire Lehigh Acres community.

“When I had opted eight or 10 people would be willing to serve, it turned out that nearly 50 have come forward. I certainly want to include all persons willing to help so I have had to adjust my thinking about our process. I plan to have this group meet at least once every other month,” Mann said.

The local people will be working with Paul O’Connor, director of planning, and Kathie Ebaugh, principal planner for the county.

Mann said the work will be done at the first with those who volunteered to serve on the committee; however, the public is invited to attend on Aug. 28.

“We just can’t have a hundred or more people on a committee to get this work done. But we plan to have more meetings and to meet with other groups representing all the people in Lehigh.

“We want to pass this through the Lehigh Community Council, the ministerial group and other organizations before we put it into the overall Lee County Community Plan,” Mann said.

The process will take at least a year, he said.
