Prep Report: NFM drops volleyball opener

North Fort Myers battled back after dropping the first game to take a 2-1 lead, but was unable to put away Canterbury Monday in the season-opening volleyball match for both teams.

Canterbury bounced back to take the last two games for a 25-19, 14-25, 22-25, 25-21, 15-4 victory.

Junior Jessica Wagner led the Red Knights with 17 kills, nine blocks, 14 digs and eight service aces. Junior Susie McKeever added 24 assists to go with 11 digs and senior Jessica Petrucci contributed 17 digs.

The Red Knights (0-1) host Mariner Tuesday night.

Fort Myers 3, Island Coast 0: The Gators were not match for the Green Wave in a straight-set defeat in their season-opening match.

Fort Myers 150, Mariner 219: Four scores between 36 and 39 carried Fort Myers to a season-opening victory over Mariner Monday at Fort Myers Country Club.

Dean Hofer led the Tritons with a 42 and John Inkster shot 49 on the par-35 layout.

Mike Andre took medalist honors for Fort Myers with a 1-over-par 36.

The Tritons (0-1) take on the Cape Seahawks Tuesday at Royal Tee.
