Fifth Third Bank to wrap-up Back to School Drive
Fifth Third Bank will wrap-up its Back to School Drive Friday, Sept. 3, with a radio broadcast and lunch at its south Del Prado Boulevard branch.
The Back to School Drive, which kicked off Aug. 16, is a fund-raiser that helps provide backpacks full of supplies for students who are in need of assistance in Lee, Collier, Manatee, Sarasota and Palm Beach counties.
Fifth Third Bank works with the Education Foundation to help find students in need.
“Through this partnership, Fifth Third Bank hopes to equip children — who might otherwise go without these essentials — with all of the tools and materials they need to go confidently in the direction of their dreams,” said David Call, president and CEO of South Florida Fifth Third Bank, in a prepared statement.
This is the second year Fifth Third Bank has held the Back to School Drive, License Personal Banker Erin Garrett said. Last year the bank donated more than 1,000 filled backpacks to students, she added.
Garrett said Fifth Third Bank will donate 1,000 backpacks again this year full of supplies that were donated through the drive.
All of the Fifth Third Bank branches are participating in the Back to School Drive. Suggested supplies include No. 2 pencils, spiral notebooks, eight or 24-count boxes of crayons, washable glue or glue sticks, full-size boxes of tissue, anti-bacterial wipes or hand sanitizer and gallon or sealable sandwich-size bags.
The drive is one of the largest fund-raisers the bank does during the year because it is a good cause for the kids, Garrett said.
The Friday activities will kick off at 11 a.m. with Bob FM providing its “Vault” for individuals to win a key to open a car. Hot dogs, drinks and chips will also be served until 1 p.m. for a monetary or school supply donation.
She said the bank has raised around $300 for the Back to School Drive.
The festivities will be held at 2724 Del Prado Blvd., South. For information call 239- 542-5100.
