Verot rolls over ECS, 41-16

By Staff | Sep 4, 2010

What started out badly for the Bishop Verot Vikings quickly turned in their favor Friday night in the football season opening game against Evangelical Christian.

The Vikings overcame an interception return for a touchdown on the third play from scrimmage to roll over the Sentinels 41-7 at Viking Stadium.

ECS junior Colby Lynch stepped in front of Verot quarterback Jake Kistel’s first pass and returned it for the Sentinels’ first touchdown of the season. That play wound up to be the highlight of the game for ECS.

The rest belonged to Verot, which scored 10 points on its next two possessions to take a 10-7 lead for good.

Senior Maxx Moore broke the scoring ice for the Vikings with a 38-yard field goal and added another from 22 yards in the third quarter. D.J. Judge scored three touchdowns on runs of 9, 25 and 1 yards and Devon Pavlick hauled in Kistel’s deflected pass intended for Matt Brewer for a 44-yard TD just before halftime.

The Vikings (1-0) play at Lemon Bay next Friday.
