Good outcome for Cape youth football teams
Cape Coral Junior and Cape Coral Youth football organizations had a successful day of Pop Warner Football Peace River Conference action on Saturday.
Cape Junior teams swept all four division games over Immokalee while Cape Youth prevailed 3-1 over the North Fort Myers Junior Knights.
Cape Junior hosts the North Port Mustangs next Saturday while Cape Youth travels to the Suncoast Buccaneers and North Fort Myers visits the Lake Placid Dragons.
Mitey Mite
Typhoons 38, NFM Knights 6: Major Stratton and Kole Williamson both found the end zone for the first time this season in the Cape Youth Typhoons’ victory. Isaac Johnson added a 25-yard halfback pass TD.
The Typhoons’ defense allowed just four first downs and one TD against the Knights.
Cyclones 26, NFM Knights 12: The Cape Youth Cyclones won a hard-fought game over the Knights.
Jalen Ellis broke loose for a 43-yard touchdown run and Fletcher Reynolds kicked his first extra-point of the season for an 8-0 lead.
The Knights cut the lead to 8-6 before the end of the first quarter and capitalized on a Cyclones fumble to take a 12-8 lead
The Cyclones regained the lead, 14-12, on their next possession as John Pascale punched it in with second effort.
The Cyclones defense came out in the second half and did not allow the Knights another score.
The Cyclones tacked on touchdowns by Ellis and Chazman Shields.
Jr. Pee Wee
Lightning 7, NFM Knights 6: The Cape Youth Lightning used a ferocious defense to beat the Knights.
Luke Ensley scored the Lightning’s lone touchdown with Cory Besse catching the game winning point-after pass.
The Lightning defense stopped the Knights three times inside the 23-yard line. The first stop was on a first down at the Lightning 11, driving the Knights back to the 37 where the Lightning took over on downs.
The second occurred inside the 24 with the blitzing, pressuring defense driving the Knights backwards.
The last stop came with the Knights recovering a fumble on the Lightning 9-yard line with a little over a minute remaining. The defense’s biggest moment came on a game-ending tackle at the 4 by Ensley and Brady Cook.
The Lightning forced a total of four fumbles.
Pee Wee
Thunder 34, NFM Knights 0: The undefeated Cape Youth Thunder cruised to victory behind the touchdown runs of scrambling quarterback Jordan Diggs, Cooper Gibson, Brennan Williams and Luke Kane. Kane also caught a TD pass from Diggs.
The Thunder defense again was solid. In four games, the defense has given up just six points while the offense accounted for 103 points.
“What this team has accomplished so far this year is amazing,” said coach Lance Reynolds. “This group of boys have come together as a team and it shows with everything they do during games as well as in practice.”
Junior Midget
NFM Knights 42, Tornadoes 14: The Knights scored on two long runs to take a 16-0 halftime lead and went on to beat the Cape Youth Tornadoes.
The Tornadoes took the second half kickoff and drove for a touchdown. Two fumbles and eight penalties did not help the Tornadoes’ cause even with a kickoff return for a TD.
Midget
Hurricanes 14, NFM Knights 12: Sage Attwood passed for 118 yards and ran for one touchdown to help the Cape Youth Hurricanes edge the Knights.
Jhshod Thornton ran for 78 yards and one TD while Preston Tibbs added 40 yards rushing.
The Hurricanes’ defense was led by John Riccardi and Attwood with 7 tackles apiece. Christian Goss made five tackles and Austin Mellaci had an interception.
“We have a young team that continues to get better each week,” said coach Mike McBride. “We are starting to come together as a team and this was a big step for us. We made a few mistakes tonight but did a good job of playing through them.”
