Chiropractor charged in planning murder of husband

A Fort Myers woman has been arrested and charged in a plot to kill her husband in exchange for a Harley Davidson motorcycle, investigaors said today. They idenified the suspect as Kimberly Aters, 53, of 5272 Selby Drive. She was arrested on Sept. 24.

Invetigators said the Lee County Sheriff’s Office were notified of a possible solicitation for murder. Deputies met with a confidential informant who said while at the Wellness Center in Fort Myers, he was propositioned by Alters to kill her husband in exchange for the motorcycle.

Alters worked as a nurse practitioner at the Wellness Center and previously ran a chiropractic business in Fort Myers. Due to the nature of the allegation, the case was turned over to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit.

On September 26, utilizing electronic surveillance equipment, detectives watched a meeting between the confidential informant and Alters where details were discussed of how and when the murder would occur.

Alters suggested the murder occur in October when she and her children would be at Busch Gardens in Tampa for the weekend, investigators said. Asked how she wanted her husband killed, Alters said she wanted him shot.

Investigators said that on September 26 at approximately 2 p.m., Alters drove her personal vehicle to a meeting place and supplied a photo of her husband and $125 cash for the confidential informant to purchase the firearm to commit the murder.

As Alters left the meeting place, deputies conducted a traffic stop based on probable cause developed during the investigation. Alters was discovered to be in possession of a fully loaded revolver as well as 59 Alprazolm pills and 6.5 Dextroamphetamine pills.

Alters has been charged with solicitation to commit murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and two counts of possession of a dontrolled substance.
