Lightning may have caused fire at unoccupied house
Lehigh Acres firefighters responded to a fire at a vacant home in the 2500 block of 54th St. SW at 10:25 p.m. Tuesday night, Sept. 28.
Fire Marshal Ken Bennett said the fire originated in the rear of the home and based upon the facts present at the time of the investigation, the fire appears unintentional and may have started from a lightning strike earlier in the day.
He said the house did not appear to have been occupied for some time. There were no injuries to firefighters and Bennett said the damage to the house is estimated to be around $20,000.
