October’s roster of activities at East County Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

ADULTS

Book Discussion: John Irving’s “A Prayer for Owen Meany”

Chess Anyone?

4 p.m. Mondays, October 4, 11, 18, 25

Rise to the chess challenge and join the fun. Everyone is welcome. Bring a personal chess set, if preferred. This program is provided by the Friends of the East County Regional Library.

Family Story time

6:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 5

This program is for the whole family and lasts about 30 minutes.

Toddler Story time

10 a.m. Wednesday, October 6

10 a.m. Thursday, October 7

Children 2 years old and their caregivers participate in song, finger plays and

short stories. The success of this age group depends on adult participation

and encouragement. Toddler story time lasts approximately 30 minutes.

Baby-Parent Rhyme Time

10 a.m. Saturday, October 9

Be prepared to tickle, jump and fly with your baby! These rhymes and songs are for infants, up to 24 months, accompanied by an adult. This 20-minute program

is filled with songs designed to introduce rhyming and movement to infants.

KIDS

Preschool Story time

10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 6

10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 7

Preschoolers (ages 3 to 5) attend this story time independently while parents or caregivers wait nearby in the library building. This story time includes

activities that require more participation and a longer attention span. Each preschool story time lasts about 30 minutes.

Kids Read Down Fines

3-4 p.m. Saturday, October 16

4:30-5:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 27

Children and teens can earn a $2 coupon for every 15 minutes of reading during the allotted time in the designated area of the library. For ages 18 and

younger. Coupons may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under only.

Diaz de los Metros

2 p.m. Saturday, October 30

Come celebrate this ancient Aztec holiday. Listen to a bilingual (Spanish/English) story and learn if the day is anything like Halloween. A fun craft project will follow. Registration is required.

TEENS

East County Anime Club

4:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 5

Join a group of teens with an interest in Anime, Mange and other aspects of Japanese culture. Snacks provided by the Friends of the East County Regional Library. Registration is required.
