The Lee County Sheriff’s Office reported two traffic fatalities over the weekend. First on Saturday, Oct. 2 at around 10:12 p.m., Larry King, a spokesman with the Sheriff’s Office, said a traffic crash occurred on SR 82, just west of Sunshine Blvd. in Lehigh Acres. A Fort Myers woman was killed in the crash. Traffic was delayed for a time due to the accident.

Then on Sunday at around 7:39 p.m., deputies were told that a man had fallen out of the bed of a pickup truck receiving a head injury. EMS responded and took the man to a hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

In the Saturday accident, multiple calls came into the Sheriff’s Office regarding the accident on SR82 just west of Sunshine Blvd. According to a report, 44-year-old Fara Amsalem of Fort Myers, turned left from an access road west of Sunshine Blvd. into the path of a pickup truck which was headed west on SR82. Amsalem was fatally injured and two of her children were also injured in the crash, King said.

The youngest was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital while the other child was taken to the Trauma Center at Lee Memorial Hospital. He said both children are now reported in fair condition.

The driver, from Okeechobee, and two juvenile passengers in the pickup truck did not require hospital treatment, King said in a report.

An autopsy will be performed by the District 21 Medical Examiner. No charges have been filed, King said. Deputies are awaiting the results of toxicology and the investigation continues, he said.
