Prep Report: Baker boys back on course

By Staff | Oct 7, 2010

The Ida Baker boys’ golf team has posted three more wins to its record since the weekend blip in Key West.

The Bulldogs, who took an undefeated slate to Key West and lost a nine-hole match Friday and an 18-hole match Saturday, defeated South Fort Myers 154-177 Monday and added two wins Tuesday at Royal Tee Golf Club in a tri-match with Cape Coral and Lehigh.

“We shot a better score than it should have been because of conditions,” said Bulldogs coach Scott Conforte.

The Bulldogs (11-2) tallied 156 to outscore the foursomes for Cape Coral (198) and Lehigh (240). It was the first time this season the Bulldogs and Seahawks met on the course.

Baker’s Dylan Fine had one bogey and two birdies in his medalist round of 1-under-par 35, including a birdie on the final home to go under par. Teammate Anthony Myers came through with a round of 39 that included back-to-back birdies on the final two holes to break 40.

“Doyle’s score was amazing considering how breezy it was and the greens were bumpy,” said Conforte.

Cape Coral broke the 200 barrier for nine holes for the first time this season, led by Anthony Lawrence’s team-low round of 39.

“We’ve improved more than 40 strokes since the first match,” said Seahawks coach Bob Plageman. “I hope we can shave some more strokes with the district coming up in two weeks.”

Lehigh was led by a pair of 48s by Max Schashinger and Brad Muchler.

Both Cape (4-6) and Baker (11-2) are in action again Thursday along with Island Coast, Mariner and North Fort Myers in the North of the River Tournament at Magnolia Landing.
