Faulkner leads Baker to LCAC titleBy JIM LINETTE, jlinette@breezenewspapers.comPOSTED: October 12, 2010Save | Print | Email | Read comments | Post a comment
Fort Myers and Ida Baker battled all day for supremacy in the LCAC boys’ golf tournament Monday at Palmetto Pine Country Club.
It wasn’t until the back nine that the Baker contingent took charge to pull off a convincing 309-324 victory over the Green Wave.
Michael Faulkner led the was for the Bulldogs with a 3-over-par 75. Mike Andre of Fort Myers matched that score through 18 holes and the pair headed to a playoff for the individual championship.
Andre’s tee shot went out of bounds and he double-bogeyed while Faulkner sank par for the win.
“The greens were super fast,” said Baker coach Scott Conforte. “It was just a great day.”
Joining Faulkner and Andre on the all-conference team were Baker’s Tyler Doyle with a 76, Baker’s Dylan Fine and Fort Myers’ John Lowrey with 78s and Drew London of Cypress Lake with 79. Those six were the only scores in the 70s.
“Fort Myers had us through the front nine,” said Conforte. “Then, actually, my five guys combined to play the back nine in 6-over.”
Led by Dean Hofer with an 83 and Tyler Till with an 88, the Mariner Tritons tied for fifth overall (364) with South Fort Myers.
Zach Holton shot 83 to lead North Fort Myers (379) to seventh place while Blair Langford paced Cape Coral (394) to ninth place with an 89.
The Bulldogs and others now take aim at the District 2A-15 Tournament next Monday at River Hall.
