Prep Report: Collier edges Baker for 2A-15 title

Barron Collier claimed the District 2A-15 golf championship Monday with a sterling 3-under-par team effort at Eastwood Golf Course.

The Cougars finished 1-2-3-4 in the individual standings, led by Phil Boljanovich with a 2-under 70. Matt Taylor shot 71 while Jake Delaney and Nik Susnjara both turned in 72s for a team total of 285.

Ida Baker finished second in the team race with 301 and Fort Myers was third with 306. All three teams advance to the Region 2A-5 Tournament next Monday in Sarasota at the Misty Creek Country Club.

Anthony Myers and Dylan Fine led the Bulldogs with matching 73s. Tyler Doyle carded 77 and Michael Faulkner shot 78.

Fort Myers was led by Mike Andre and John Lowrey each with 72.

North Fort Myers (362) placed eighth in the team standings, followed by Mariner (373) and Cape Coral (378).

Zach Holton led North with an 80, Dean Hofer shot 81 to lead Mariner and Blair Langford’s 87 was the low round of the day for Cape Coral.

Girls Golf

At Eastwood: The District 2A-15 Tournament came down to a six-hole playoff for the individual title Monday after Stephanie Carlozzi of Barron Collier, Georgia Price of Fort Myers and Katie Cross of Riverdale all shot 3-over-par 75.

Cross was eliminated on the first playoff hole and Carlozzi won it on the sixth hole.

Gulf Coast took the team title with a 330 total. Barron Collier placed second with 340 and Fort Myers third with 354. Those three teams advance to the Region 2A-5 Tournament next Monday at Magnolia Landing.

Cape Coral’s Regina Sin carded a round of 80 to qualify for the regional individually. The Seahawks placed ninth as a team.

Ida Baker’s Kaitlin Schafe shot 90, Brittany Agricola of North Fort Myers shot 90 and Kelsey Fallish of Mariner carded 97 to lead their respective teams, but none advanced to the regional.

Volleyball

North Fort Myers 3, Island Coast 0: Led by a trio of seniors, the North Fort Myers Red Knights hammered out a season-high 30 service aces to beat Island Coast 25-9, 25-9, 25-4 Monday night.

Jessica Petrucci delivered 13 of the aces with Paige Engh accounting for 11 and Alex Smith five. The 30 aces also is believed to be a school record.

Junior middle hitter Jessica Wagner contributed 13 kills for the Red Knights (11-10), who host Dunbar Wednesday night. It’s also senior night in the Knights’ final week of the regular season. The District 4A-11 Tournament starts next Monday.
