Slander commercials need to be addressed
To The Editor:
I am a member of the Florida Retirement Fund. Current slander commercials about Alex Sink’s supervision of the Florida Retirement Fun need to be addressed.
This Retirement Fund losses ranged about 25 percent, according to the negative commercials.
Anyone I know in my friends and family’s losses, have ranged higher than 50 percent. I am speaking pension funds, 401Ks, Deferred Compensation accounts.
For those with very short memories, I recall this fun taking a substantial hit with its Enron investment, which was advised by Jeb Bush. This loss could never be recovered.
By far and away, the most financial threat to retirees loss of income, came from Florida’s legislature in 2010 when Gov. Crist vetoed SB8. This bill would eliminate the subsidy that every retiree receives, to offset cost of secondary health insurance.
If, retirees had to pay this subsidy, it would reduce their retirement checks. This would reduce this spending power, in all communities throughout Florida. This credit is earned by years of service.
This is just one more manipulation of facts, to run negative campaigns, rather than running on a candidate’s own record.
