Senior State Championships a month away

TALLAHASSEE – It’s just over a month until the 19th Florida Senior Games State Championships begins at Cape Coral and Lee County venues and deadlines are approaching for those wishing to compete in the State Championships and qualify for the 2011 National Senior Games.

The final two local Senior Games qualifiers – the Martin County Senior Games and Golden Age Games in Sanford – will be contested over the next two weekends.

The Martin County Games begin Friday and run through Nov. 14. Athletes wishing to compete can register online at econnect.martin.fl.us or call (772) 221-1419.

Sanford’s Golden Games, recognized as the “nation’s oldest Senior Games,” begin Saturday and run through Nov. 13. The registration deadline to compete is Wednesday. Visit www.sanfordfl.gov/events/gag_2010/gag_2010.html or call (407) 688-5129 for registration information.

As of Monday, more than 500 athletes age 50 and over have registered for the nine-day Florida Senior Games State Championships to run Dec. 4-12.

The most convenient way is online registration, now available at www.flasports.com, the Florida Sports Foundation web site.

Entry deadline for registration to be received at the Florida Sports Foundation office in Tallahassee is Nov. 16. The online registration deadline is Nov. 19. Entry fees vary by sport.
