Volunteers pick cucumbers for the hungry

By Staff | Nov 4, 2010

Picking cukes: Dewey Tyler and Mike Armstrong and their families have resumed picking vegetables to be given to Lehigh Community Services, the Kiwanis Store and New Image Ministries. The food is free to those who need it in Lehigh. The group is shown here on a farm just off SR80 where the farmer told the group too pick all the cucumbers they wanted without charge. They are from left to right, Rachel Armstrong, Mike Armstrong, Michael Armstrong Jr., Lavrdes Armstrong, Leol Armstrong, Dewey Tyler, Michelle Tyler, Kimico Tyler. Dewey said volunteers are needed to help pick vegetables to be delivered to agencies in Lehigh to be given away to those who need food during these hard economic times. Farmers from Lehigh to Clewiston are donating much of their crops during this harvest time. If you would like to help gather vegetables, contact Dewey Tyler at 239-823-2683. Tyler, Armstrong and others have been collecting vegetables for local food banks for two years.
