Book Fair scheduled Nov. 12-14 at Faith Lutheran
Tom Nelson, Lehigh author who wrote “That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.”
Faith Lutheran Church at 705 Leeland Heights Blvd. will hold its second annual Book Fair on Friday, Nov. 12 from 5 to 8 p.m; Saturday, Nov. 13, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Sunday, Nov. 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Used books are offered for sale from 50 cents for paperbacks and a dollar for hard covers.
This past year, the church held its first book fair with the promise that if successful it could be an annual affair. The Book Fair was formed in conjnction with members of the Gulf Gulf Coast Writers Association to give local authors a place to come and talk with the public about books they had write and to sell and autograph them as well.
Combined with a huge quantity of slightly used, previously loved books of every description and genre, the affair proved to be a success beyond expectations, according to organizers.
Authors will only be available on Saturday the 13th. Consequently, to meet and chat with them and buy their books with free autographs, you may wish to make plans for that day. New books range from $5 to $20 but are often negotiable with the authors in keeping in the spirit of this fun event.
Some of the local Gulf Coast Authors planning to be in attendance on Saturday include:
* Doug MacGregor: Turn on the Right Side of your Brain, Ochre the Smoker and Turtellini are three of MacGregor’s books. He is the editorial cartoonist for The New-Press and his autographed book would be a great gift, said Richard Georgian, president of the group.
* Becky Elam: Becky’s Family, Friends and Fellowship Dinners brings 40 years as a minister’s wife together with taste tested receipts and family legends.
* Denise Holbrook: With a passion for writing and children, Holbrook has created a charming illustrated children’s book, Door. It’s a perfect first book for a preschool through second grade, Georgian said.
* Henry Hermann: On the faculty of Edison College, Hermann has written 15 books, two of his latest are Beginnings and The Tooth Fairy.
* Robert Bair: Cloisters of Canterbury (Bio) a post WWII suspense story and Peace at Lambeth Bridge are Bair’s latest novels.
* John Reid: John is a new author and looking to introduce his first book.
*Tom Nelson: That’s My StoryAnd I’m Sticking to It! followed by two sequels are Nelson’s stories of small town midwestern life in the 1940s and ’50s. He also writes a weekly newspaper column.
There are currently more than 100 members in the Fort Myers area enjoying GCWA membership. Georgian of Lehigh, encourages all interested in reading and especially local authors to turn out for the event. He said this is an excellent opportunity for “up and coming authors” to join the organization and meet others with the same goals. Check out www.gulfwriters.org for more information.
A limited number of special treasures will be offered at this sale and the church is soliciting contributions of unique items as well as used books to help guarantee three eventful days.
Proceeds from the Book Fair will go to the church’s many activities serving the Lehigh community. They include the Learning Village pre-school, Boy and Girl Scout sponsorship, weekly bread ministry, food pantry drives, AA meetings and many other outreach benefits to the area.
