Babysitter, 35, charged with murder of infant
Lee County Sheriff’s investigators arrested and charged Maria Guadalupe Corsa-Hernandez, 35, of 238 Milwaukee Blvd., Lehigh Acres, with one count of felony murder, a capital offense, and one count of aggravated child abuse.
On Nov. 3 at approximately 3:40 p.m., deputies responded to Healthpark Medical Center in Fort Myers concerning the death of a 7-month old infant, David Landron, of 10749 Coca Tree Court.
Deputies learned the infant had been in the care of a babysitter, Corsa-Hernandez, when he reportedly began to choke on his food. Emergency personnel responded to administer life saving measures. The infant was then flown to the hospital, where he later died.
Detectives with the sheriff’s office Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation, which revealed that Landron had actually suffered massive head trauma and injuries consistent with being shaken. Corsa-Hernandez was the only person with Landron when the injuries occurred, they said.
Based on the information gathered during the investigation, Corsa-Hernandez was charged with murder. She was taken to the Lee County Jail.
