Cape Coral wanted to have momentum heading into the next week’s playoffs, and stay healthy. They accomplished both goals Friday night with a dominating 20-0 victory over the Lehigh Lightning.

Cape’s defense was dominant against a run-heavy Lightning from start to finish. The Seahawks forced three turnovers and six punts and showed their defense is playing at the same high level as the offense.

Cape’s first score came on a one-yard punch in by T.J. Johnson, This followed a 28-yard gain, making quarterback Bryan Greenwell’s job easy in the first quarter.

Lehigh’s defense played tough and kept the Lightning in the game, 6-0, after the first quarter.

The Seahawks were moving the ball in the second quarter, but were never able to finish a drive. Greenwell went 5-of-8 passing in the second quarter, including a pretty 42-yard pass to receiver Prince Holloway, but the drive stalled when a 39-yard field goal attempt was blocked by Lehigh.

The first half concluded and even though the Seahawks dominated every single stat, they had to settle for a 6-0 lead. Lehigh’s stingy defensive line traded blows with the Seahawks and gave the Lightning hope heading into the second half.

Things finally opened up in the third quarter after the teams traded fumbles inside the Lightning 10-yard line. The Seahawks scored their second touchdown of the game on a pass to Pevin Lewis. Greenwell’s first and only touchdown pass of the game, gave the Seahawks a 13-0 lead.

Cape got the ball back after a punt, but Greenwell through an interception on the first play of the drive. This set up Lehigh’s best chance at points for the game. Cape’s defense bailed out Greenwell by sacking Lehigh quarterback Malik Simmons twice on third and fourth downs.

T.J. Johnson struck again on the very first play after the defensive stand. This time he scored on a 45-yard run late in the third quarter, putting Cape ahead 20-0.

With the game intact and everyone healthy, the starters were pulled early in the fourth quarter and the Seahawks walked away with just what they needed heading into the playoffs.

Greenwell finished the game 11-of-21 for 170 yards with one touchdown pass and one interception. Johnson finished with 178 yards on 15 carries with two TDs.

Greenwell found his favorite receiver Holloway five times for 96 yards. Lewis, who caught the only TD pass, also added an interception.

Simmons carried the ball 30 times for 116 yards.

The Seahawks head into regional quarterfinal round of the playoffs with a home game against Palmetto next Friday at Dave Warkentin Field.

A victory by the Seahawks (9-1) would put them in position for a potential regional semifinal matchup against the state’s No. 3-ranked Charlotte Tarpons (10-0).
