Prep Report: Seahawks repel Bulldogs, 4-2
Cape Coral had the upper hand most of the night, but Ida Baker rallied for two goals late in the second half in a 4-2 loss to the Seahawks at Dave Warkentin Field Thursday night.
“I am happy with the result,” said Seahawks coach Aldo Nardiello, “and very impressed with Baker after losing all those seniors from last season. They never gave up.”
Caio Amaral broke the scoreless tie with 4 1/2 minutes remaining in the first half. Amaral forced the ball deep in the right corner and fired a shot along the baseline to the middle where it was blocked into the net by a Baker defender.
The Seahawks scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the second half to take a 3-0 lead. Amaral beat a defender to the ball in the middle inside the box for his second score. Later, after a long free kick, Amaral sent a pass to the middle where Kevin Lopera knocked it home.
“We had periods where our passing was very sharp,” said Nardiello. “We controlled the tempo at times and they controlled it at times.”
Daniel Sharkey got the Bulldogs on the board a few minutes later with a long run and a score from the left wing.
Paolo Acosta answered for the Seahawks, sending a free kick from the left sideline over the defense and into the far upper corner of the net.
The Bulldogs were not done, either. With about six minutes left, Nick Presti sailed a throw-in deep in the box where Sharkey headed it into the net for the final tally.
“We finally were able to capitalize on a few of their mistakes,” said Bulldogs coach Mark Fitzpatrick. “We’ve got a ways to go and we have a lot of conditioning to do.”
Bulldogs goalkeeper Rush Manterola made seven saves, all in the first half. All three Cape shots on goal in the second half went in the net.
Cape goalkeeper Daniel Villamil finished with five saves.

The Tritons trailed 2-0 at the half after having two goals disallowed in the first 40 minutes. Another goal was waved off in the second half.
David Steeb and Steven Kong found the back of the net in the early stages of the second half to tie the game while Juan Rincon got the game-winner with about seven minutes remaining.
