Twins-Sox play spring opener Feb. 27
The Minnesota Twins and Boston Red Sox will open the 2011 spring training season on Feb. 27, the Twins announced Monday.
The Twins’ schedule features 16 home games at Hammond Stadium, their 21st spring season in Fort Myers.
Twins pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report on Feb. 17 with the first workout the next day. The rest of the squad reports on Feb. 22 with the first full-squad workout on Feb. 23.
The AL East champion Tampa Bay Rays play the Twins at Hammond Stadium on March 4 and 19. The Yankees visit once on March 27, the Cardinals once on March 7 and the Red Sox visit twice more on March 1 and 11.
The National League East champion Philadelphia Phillies are in town March 13. The rest of the Twins’ home opponents include the Pirates, Orioles, Mets, Tigers, Blue Jays and Marlins.
The spring schedule concludes March 29 and 30 with a pair of games against the Braves at Atlanta’s Turner Field.
