Cape Coral converted four free throws in the final 20 seconds to seal a 54-51 come-from-behind victory Tuesday night and spoil Ida Baker’s season-opening effort.

The Bulldogs opened an 8-2 lead heading into the second quarter and clung to a 17-14 halftime lead.

Things settled down after that, but Cape’s Justin Mitchell broke loose for 14 of his team-high 16 points in the second half to lead the comeback.

“It was a great effort with seven guys on back-to-back nights,” said Seahawks coach Mark Rinehart. “We had to control the pace of the game in the second half. We did a good job defending (Shaun) Manego in the first half.”

Manego, who had six points at halftime, rallied in the second half for a game-high 23 points to lead the Bulldogs. Christian Davis added 10.

Chase Galuzny chipped in with 13 points for the Seahawks and David Flynn added 10.

Cape (2-0) plays Gulf Coast Friday in Baker’s Turkey Shootout while the Bulldogs (0-1) face Community School of Naples.

Cape Coral 4, Lehigh 0: Ron Lind scored two goals and goalkeeper Daniel Villamil made seven saves for his second straight shutout as Cape Coral blanked Lehigh Tuesday.

Kevin Lopera and Juan Cano added single goals for the Seahawks, who got two assists from Nate Stone, one by Nico Camacho and one by Lind.

The Seahawks (7-0) play their first district game Tuesday at Lemon Bay.

Mariner 2, Riverview 0: Tim Thomas and Juan Rincon scored goals in the second half to lift Mariner to victory in the second round of the Sarasota Thanksgiving Tournament.
