Prep Report: Bulldogs drown in storm of 3s

By Staff | Nov 27, 2010

It was raining three-pointers at Ida Baker Friday night in the last of four games in the Bulldogs’ Turkey Shootout.

Community School of Naples threw up more than 35 shots from three-point range and connected for 13 of them to rout the host Bulldogs 93-75.

In earlier games, Gulf Coast held off Cape Coral 52-47 and Barron Collier downed Barron Collier 78-59.

The shootout concludes Saturday with four more games, starting at 3:45 p.m. with Cape Coral and Immokalee. Cypress Lake takes on North Port at 5:15, followed by North Fort Myers and Community School of Naples at 6:45. Baker collides with Gulf Coast in the finale at 8:15 p.m.

“They pressed us throughout the game and didn’t hold onto the ball themselves more than 10 seconds it seemed,” said Bulldogs coach Brad Seiss.

The Bulldogs opened a 12-point lead in the first quarter before CSN caught fire and led 44-39 at halftime.

CSN broke it open in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 31-19 down the stretch.

“We had the lead and then had a few bad minutes,” said Seiss.

Gulf Coast 52, Cape Coral 47: Cape Coral was in a holiday mood on the court, giving away a victory to Gulf Coast in the Turkey Shootout at Baker.

“We had no focus and did not get the kind of effort we got in our earlier games,” said Seahawks coach Mark Rinehart. “I have to give the boys credit, we came back and made a game of it in the fourth quarter, but we were so exhausted from coming back we had nothing left.”

Justin Mitchell led the Seahawks with 17 points, the only Cape player in double figures. As a team, Cape was 2-of-20 from three-point range.

The Seahawks trailed 36-23 heading into the second half when they launched their comeback, but the Sharks held on for the win.

“We have a limited margin of error and we got what we deserved,” said Rinehart. “We settled for playing on the perimeter.”

The Seahawks (2-1) take on Immokalee, which beat Cypress Lake in the opening game, at 3:45 p.m. Saturday to finish their tournament play.
