Cold night predicted for Lehigh; freeze warning is issued

The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill warning and a freeze warning tonight for inland parts of Lee County, including Lehigh Acres.

The wind chill warning will be from 7 p.m. tonight to 10 a.m. Tuesday morning.

A Freeze Warning will be effect from 9 p.m. tonight to 9 a.m. Tuesday morning with a Freeze Watch Tuesday.

Gusty Northwesterly winds will combine with cold temperatures to create wind chill values as low as 20 degrees tonight across Lee County and temperatures as low as 19 Tuesday morning.

Freeze Watch Tuesday night and Wednesday morning is forecast with a low around 31 degrees.

Wednesday Night is forecast to be around 40 degrees.

The following cold weather shelters will be open in Lee County: The Salvation Army Fort Myers Rescue Mission in downtown Fort Myers.

Opens at: 7 p.m.

Red Shield Lodge 6900 Mission Lane, 2476 Edison Avenue Fort Myers.

Residents are urged to consider the following cold weather precautions:

Be careful with space heaters. Keep away from flammable items such as curtains and upholstery. Inspect the heater and electrical cord before use. Do not use extension cords.

Make sure your smoke detector is working.

Do not use charcoal or gas grills inside. They produce deadly Carbon Monoxide.

Bring pets and potted plants inside. Cover outdoor plants.

Protect wells and outdoor plumbing from freezing.

Check on neighbors, friends and relatives. The elderly and children are especially vulnerable to cold temperatures.

Stay indoors or dress warmly, in layers, and wear a hat if you will be outside.
