Reader says crime does pay in Lee County

By Staff | Dec 21, 2010

To the Editor:

According to newspaper reports a man that burglarized more than 100 Lehigh Acres homes was sentenced to seven years in prison. After time off for good behavior he will serve at most five years.

This comes out to about two weeks in jail for every house burglarized. No mention is made of restitution. If he kicked in 100 front doors and it costs $500 to replace each door this alone is $50,000 in damages, not to mention the cost of appliances stolen in 100 houses and other damage he caused.

By treating this major crime spree as some sort of childish joke the Lee County District Attorney and a so-called judge have given a wink and a nod to future criminals that even if they are caught burglarizing houses the District Attorney and so-called judges will protect them and give them less than a slap on the wrist.

Apparently crime does pay in lee County Florida, home of corrupt judges and useless district attorneys.
