Aronberg to work in attorney general’s office
Former State Senator Dave Aronberg who represented most of Lehigh Acres to Estero and over to the east coast, says he is working on the transitional team of the new attorney general of Florida.
Pam Bondi is a Republican while Aronberg is a Democrat, but he has known Bondi for some time and she has asked him to help in the transition when she takes over the office of attorney general next month.
Aronberg worked in the State Attorney General’s office a few years back before he ran successfully for a seat in the State Senate. He gave up his seat and ran in the Democratic Primary to become the nominee for the race in November. He lost to Dan Geber, a Democrat from the east coast of the state.
Even though Aronberg lost in the Primary, he said he received most of the votes from Lee County and Lehigh Acres especially.
“And for that I will always be appreciative,” Aronberg said a few days ago while dining with Myra Kessler, who is one of Aronberg’s strongest supporters.
Aronberg’s job won’t stop after the transition takes place.
He said he will be working on searching out pain clinics in the state which are doing illegal activities such as abusing the handing out of prescription drugs.
“This is a big problem in Florida and we intend to do what we can to help the people and shut down the pain clinic mills that are operating illegally,” he said.
Aronberg and incoming Attorney General Pam Bondi have known each other for years through a friendship with her brother.
“These things like illegal pain clinics pumping out medications that are illegal and over medicating people is not a partisan issue. It affect all of our population, and Attorney General Bondi agrees,” he said.
Aronberg made his comments while visiting Lee County. He attended a conference in Fort Myers and then on his way back to Greenacres on the east coast, he stopped in Lehigh and visited a few friends.
“I’ll always love Lehigh and I will be back to visit from time to time. The people in Lehigh are the greatest and I will never forget their support,” he said.
He said he has also spoken to Lizbeth Benacquiesto, who won his old state senate seat in November.
“She’s a good person and I told her she needs to pay attention to Lehigh Acres and the other areas of Lee County that she will represent and she said she enjoyed visiting Lee County,” he said.
Aronberg said after he lost in the Primary to Dan Geber, a fellow Democrat, he felt less stressed but now he said he “is itching” to get back in public life.
He is 39 years old and got into politics 2002 and was elected in 2004 and 2008.
“I want to stay involved I am sure there are opportunities in the days ahead.
Asked if he may decide in the future to try again for elective office, he said he wasn’t sure, but the idea has crossed his mind. But those who know Aronberg well, know politics are in his blood and should the right opportunity present itself, he’s likely to give it consideration.
“I won every precinct in Lehigh Acres when I ran for State Senate. I will always remember that and I want them to know how much I care for the people of Lehigh, I really do,” he said.
