Prep Report: Seahawks make amends with 72-58 victory
Embarrassed by Monday’s lopsided loss in the first round of the Gulfshore Shootout at Golden Gate, the Cape Coral Seahawks made some amends with a 72-58 victory Tuesday over Naples Lely.
The Seahawks didn’t start pulling away until the third quarter and put the Trojans away in the final period with a 14-4 surge in the final five minutes.
“We responded well from last night (Monday),” said Seahawks coach Mark Rinehart. “We did not play particularly well, but we played hard, and that was assisted by the fact we made some shots. David Flynn hitting five threes was big.”
Flynn finished with a game-high 25 points while Santo Figueroa contributed a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. The Seahawks also were deadly at the free throw line, sinking 16-of-20 attempts.
“We played better defense as the game wore on,” said Rinehart. “We still have some work to do for the rest of the season.”
Leroy Greenridge led the Trojans (1-11) with 17 points
The Seahawks (7-5) play again in the four-day tournament at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday against Lakeland Tenoroc, which scorced Dunbar 61-42.

The Tritons built a 15-point lead at the half, 34-19, only to see it slip away down the stretch. The Tritons were outscored 34-20 in the second half, including 15-8 in the fourth quarter.
Johnny Joseph slashed to the basket for a dunk with eight seconds remaining to put Parkway up 53-52. That was the last of Joseph’s team-high 17 points.
Mariner senior Sam Guerrier, who led with a game-high 21 points, drove the length of the court to the paint and kicked it back out to Moore, who was fouled shooting a three-pointer. Moore hit the first two free throws to provide the game-winning margin. Overall, the Tritons converted 10-of-18 at the line.

The Bulldogs trailed 41-39 at halftime and found themselves still down nine points at one point in the fourth quarter. Inchausti hit two three-pointers and Davis added all six of his points in the fourth quarter comeback.
Still down five with two minutes remaining, the Bulldogs finally tied it up for the first time since early on with 30 seconds left on Davis’ drive to the basket. Then, with seven seconds on the clock, Inchausti hit his final three-pointer for the game-winning points.
“We knew we had the capacity to get to the championship game,” said Bulldogs coach Brad Seiss. “This is the first win for us where we showed we had the guts to make the plays to come back and win. Most our other wins have been by wide margins.”
Shaun Manego led the Bulldogs with 16 points and six assists, Phil Deems added 14 points and nine rebounds and Inchausti finished with 12 points. Mike Richardson pulled down 16 rebounds, including 10 on the offensive board.

Basketball Brothers Invitational: Holding onto a narrow lead got progressively more difficult for the Cape Coral Seahawks, who came up short in a 36-33 loss to Riviera Beach in the first round of the tournament Tuesday at Lehigh.
“We led, or had a small lead, most of the time,” said Seahawks coach Olivia Myers. “It was very close from start to finish, but unfortunately the little things killed us, like free throws and rebounds.”
The Seahawks (3-11) play a consolation round game at 9 a.m. Wednesday against an opponent to be determined. One of the teams traveling from the north was delayed arriving by the severe winter weather that struck over the weekend.
