Balanced scoring and rebounding carried Island Coast to a 70-60 victory at Riverdale Monday night.

Terrell Griffin and Billy Rees turned in double-double performances to back Tim Dal Bon’s game-high 27 points. Griffin added 12 points and 10 rebounds and Rees finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Patrique Chery came through with 12 points to go with six assists while Greg Orellana pulled down a team-high 14 rebounds.

“After a long layoff of 12 days it took us a while to get going,” said Gators coach Greg Coleman. “It came down to who was in better shape and we kind of wore them down in the second half.”

Rees had all 11 of his points in the second half while he, Griffin and Orellana combined for 21 offensive rebounds.

The Gators (8-6) host Ida Baker Wednesday night.

Girls Soccer

Riverdale 8, Island Coast 0: Ending a two-week layoff due to the holidays, the Island Coast Gators were dealt their fourth straight defeat.

Goalkeeper Hayley Hood made nine saves for the Gators (2-12), who play at Ida Baker Wednesday night.

Boys Soccer

Island Coast 1, Riverdale 1: Ryan Wambolt converted a penalty kick midway through the second half to earn Island Coast a tie with Riverdale.

Goalkeeper Matthew Dal Bon made 19 saves for the Gators (0-11-1), who host Ida Baker Wednesday.

Girls Basketball

Island Coast 43, Riverdale 36: Khristian Mims and Loresha Blackman combined for 30 points to lead Island Coast past Riverdale.

Blackman finished with a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Mims had a game-high 16 points.

The Gators (10-6) play at Ida Baker Wednesday night.
