13 threes keep FGCU perfect

By Staff | Jan 7, 2011

Four players scored in double figures, led by freshman Sarah Hansen’s game-highs of 16 points and eight rebounds, as the FGCU women’s basketball team picked up a 75-57 win over Lipscomb Wednesday night at Alico Arena.

The win lifts the Eagles to 11-0 overall (4-0 A-Sun) as they remain one of four undefeated teams in Division I. The win also extends their home winning streak to 30 games, third longest in the nation behind UConn and Stanford.

The Eagles, who are now 61-7 all-time and 25-5 since moving to Division I in the month of January, knocked down 13 three-point attempts on the night, topping their nation-leading 11.3 per-game average. The Eagles have drained double digit three-pointers nine times this season and now have 126 threes, including 57 in the last four games.

Seven different players made at least one three for the Eagles, led by junior Lerrin Cook’s 3-of-4 night.

Cook finished with a career-high 13 points. Junior Eglah Griffin chipped in with 11 points and seven rebounds and senior Shannon Murphy registered 10 points and a game-high five assists.

The Eagles return to the court Saturday at three-time A-Sun champion ETSU.

The FGCU men’s team (3-10, 0-4) lost to Lipscomb 75-61.
