Prep Report: Seahawks clip Riverdale’s Raiders 3-2

The undefeated Cape Coral Seahawks took care of business in Friday’s District 4A-11 boys’ soccer match, handing Riverdale a 3-2 defeat.
The Seahawks (15-0-2, 5-0-2 district) scored all three goals in the first half, which were just enough to get past the Raiders.
“Once again we decided to make it interesting,” said Seahawks coach Aldo Nardiello.
Kayck Freire took a pass from Kevin Lopera on a breakaway goal to get things started. Caio Amaral headed in a corner kick from Freire for the 2-0 lead in the game’s first seven minutes.
Amaral assisted on what proved to be the game-winning goal by Ron Lind. Goalkeeper Daniel Villamil made 13 saves.
The Seahawks visit Mariner Tuesday.
Mariner 8, Lemon Bay 0: Stephen Kong and Juan Rincon scored goals in the first half to spark Mariner to a District 4A-11 victory at Lemon Bay.
Rincon’s second of three goals in the game put the Tritons up 3-0 at the half and they coasted from there. Glenn Garron and Tim Thomas added single goals while Nelson Garcia scored twice down the stretch.
Keepers Matt Brust and Cody Kibbler split duty, each making one save for the Tritons (13-8-1, 3-3 district), who host Cape Coral Tuesday.
South Fort Myers 3, North Fort Myers 0: Three goals were enough for South Fort Myers to defeat North Fort Myers in District 4A-11 play.
Keeper Roberto Ordonez made 13 saves for North, which hosts Estero Tuesday.
Boys Basketball
Cape Coral 57, Riverdale 41: The Cape Coral Seahawks had a more balanced effort in beating district rival Riverdale.
“We played better defense and jumped on them early,” said Seahawks coach Mark Rinehart.
The Seahawks turned a 19-9 first-quarter lead into a 29-10 lead at one point before halftime and coasted from there.
Sophomore David Flynn hit a game-high 19 points to lead the Seahawks, who also got 10 points from Justin Mitchell.
The Seahawks (9-7, 5-2 district) visit Mariner Tuesday night.

Mariner 53, Lemon Bay 46: Kendrec Ferrara came up with triple-sixes for Mariner as the Tritons dumped Lemon Bay.
Ferrara had six points, six rebounds and six blocked shots. Justin Emmons and Derick Adams connected for 13 points apiece.
“It was one of those hard-fought wins on the road,” said Tritons coach James Harris. “We did a good job responding from last week’s effort over on the other coast.”
The Tritons sank 8-of-12 at the free throw line in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
The Tritons (10-4) face Community School of Naples at 5 p.m. Saturday at Naples Lely.

Fort Myers 87, Ida Baker 63: Evan Graham poured in a game-high 25 points and Matt Yance added 24 to lead Fort Myers to victory at Ida Baker.
The Green Wave (8-7) broke open a close game with a 30-16 run in the third quarter to win it going away.
“We played better defense in the second half,” said Green Wave coach Scott Guttery. “We go off our defense and get better transition baskets. Yance in only his fifth game back (from ACL injury) started looking like his old self.”
The Bulldogs were led by Shaun Manego’s 21 points with Christian Davis adding 19.
The Bulldogs (8-6) host Lemon Bay Tuesday.

Girls Soccer
South Fort Myers 1, North Fort Myers 0: After giving up the game’s only goal 10 minutes into the second half, the North Fort Myers Red Knights spent the next 30 minutes trying to get it back, but lost the District 4A-11 match to South Fort Myers.
The Red Knights (11-2-1, 7-1-1 district) were shut out for the first time this season.
“This was our third district game of the week,” said Red Knights coach Donna Agostinelli. “We played as hard as we could, and real hard the last 10 minutes or so. It was one of those invisible barrier nights when we hit the post or everything just won’t go in.”
The Red Knights close out the regular season next week when they host Lehigh Thursday and Cape Coral Friday.
Riverdale 3, Cape Coral 1: A goal in the last seven minutes by Carina Powell was all the scoring Cape Coral could get on Riverdale.
The Seahawks play at Dunbar Thursday.
Mariner 4, Lemon Bay 0: Mariner wrapped up district play with a shutout victory over Lemon Bay.
Kelsea Whitaker, Rebecca Smith and Heather Gillions had one goal and one assist apiece while Alyssa Barletta added the fourth goal.
Goalkeeper Sam Greenwell had no saves while Jessica Parks made two saves in the final 20 minutes to preserve the shutout.
The Tritons (11-6-1, 4-4-1 district) travel to Palmetto Ridge Monday for their final regular season match.
Fort Myers 3, Ida Baker 1: Ida Baker scored first, but Hayley Emerson scored three times after that to propel Fort Myers to victory over the Bulldogs.
Franny Farrella put the Bulldogs in front 1-0 early, but that was all the scoring they would get.
The Bulldogs (17-5-1) host Bishop Verot Monday.
Girls Basketball
Lemon Bay 55, Mariner 35: Lemon Bay broke open a close game in the middle two quarters to defeat Mariner.
Kyla Taylor led the Tritons with nine points and six rebounds with Alyssa Dodson adding nine points.
The Tritons (4-16) visit Cape Coral on Tuesday.
