Lehigh firefighters put out travel trailer fire
A travel trailer was destroyed by fire on Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 12:41 p.m. at 12351 Shawnee Rd., according to Fire Marshal Ken Bennett of the Lehigh Acres Fire Dept.
Bennet said that the homeowner was in the process of trying to remove wild honey bees from a travel trailer when a spark from his efforts to smoke the bees entered the travel trailer.
The fire quickly grew in size to consume the travel trailer and the personal effects stored inside, Bennett said.
The travel trailer and contents were a total loss with a value estimated at $500, Bennett said.
He reported that as a result of the travel trailer fire, a small brush fire started and was brought under control quickly with no additional damage.
There were injuries reported.
The Division of Forestry assisted with the brush fire, Bennett said.
Also the Lehigh Acres Fire Dept. reported a fire on Jan. 12 at 11:05 a.m. at Berman Street with a cross street of Burlwood Ave., south of SR82.
Bennett said the fire was in a remote area and has been classified as arson by the Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District, Life Safety Division. No injuries or property damage were noted, he said. No structures were in immediate danger. He said the size of the fire was contained to less than one acre.
