Vangie B. Mahan

Vangie B. Mahan, 87, of Lehigh Acres, died of a stroke on January 13, 2011 at Lehigh Regional Medical Center. Vangie was born September 20, 1923 in Logan County, W.V., and was the daughter of the late James Monroe Bias and Josephine (Adkins). She graduated from Berea College, with a degree as a registered nurse (RN) and later earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of Kentucky.

In 1966, she was married to George C. Mahan and they lived in Mansfield, Ohio, until they moved to Lehigh Acres in 1978.

In addition to working as a nurse, she was active in her church, serving for years with Awanas, nursery and librarian. Her family said she was kind and caring to all her knew her and was the light and life of a devoted husband.

In addition to her parents, Mahan was preceded in death by her sister Marie, and her brother Lucian.

She is survived by a brother, Charles Bias, Fredericktown, Ohio; a sister, Helen Bayuszik, Butler, Pa., husband,George C. Mahan, Lehigh Acres; a son, Erol Altug, Stony Brook, N.Y.; a daughter, Amy Jeffries, Springdale, Ark., and six grandchildren.

Services will be at Lee Memorial Park, 12777 State Route 82, Ft. Myers.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 16, 2011 from 5 – 8 p.m.

A funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2011 at 2 p.m.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in Vangie Mahan’s memory to Christ Community Church, 4050 Memorial Drive, Fort. Myers, FL 33966-1015 or the Alzheimer’s Association, PO Box 96011, Washington, D.C.
