Cephas Reid

Cephas Reid, 87, of Lehigh Acres died January 17, 2011. Born in Bunker’s Hill, Trelawney, Jamaica, on January 26, he was the son of the late Willfred and Ruth Walker Reid. He graduated from Unity Primary School and Kingston Technical School.

He was a skilled carpenter and worked as a construction supervisor at Leonard Chang Construction in Jamaica.

He migrated to the U.S. in 1963 with his first wife, the late Lurline Williams-Reid and their children and settled in Bridgeport, Conn. There he worked for E&F Construction Co., and was a construction supervisor for Bridgeport Restoration Co. and was a member of the New England Region of Carpenters Local 210 in Bridgeport.

Reid was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lehigh Acres and the Caribbean/ American Social Club of Lehigh.

He moved to Lehigh in 1994 and married Irene Reid, who survives him.

He is also survived by four daughters, Elaine (Albert) Stewart of Jamaica, Evette Goodwin of Lehigh Acres, Hazel Reid of New York and Valzie (Vinton) Peterkin of Connecticut; his son, Cedrid Reid of Connecticut; four sisters, Sybil Thomas of Jamaica, Daphne Brown of Lehigh, Minette Douglas of Miami and Evelyn Seymour of Miami; one brother, John Reid of Connecticut; 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, two great great grandchilren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lorna D. Reid-Walter; two sons-in-law, Orsbia Goodwin and Joseph Walter Jr.; a sister, Osra Reid; his brothers Neville and Roland Reid and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hamilton.

Visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church of Lehigh at 507 Sunshine Blvd. on Saturday, January 29, 2011 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 11 a.m.

Interment will follow in Lee Memorial Park Cemetery.
