Help nab thief who stole two TVs in two Walmarts

By Staff | Feb 3, 2011

Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s help identifying a man who boldly walked out of two Walmart stores, over the course of two days, carting out large flat screen TVs without ever paying a dime.

Surveillance cameras first caught the man at the North Fort Myers Walmart last

Tuesday, January 25, shortly after 5 p.m., with a 40-inch Sony LCD television set. The unknown suspect loaded up the television set and pushed it over to the Home Goods department, where he removed the security device. The suspect then walked through the front door of the store, passing all cash registers, before he was stopped by the store’s greeter.

But when the greeter was briefly distracted, the suspect seized the

opportunity to high tail it out of the store before anyone could question him further.

Two days later, on Thursday, Jan. 27, at approximately 4:30 p.m., that same man was caught on video wheeling out a 47-inch Phillips flat screen HD television set at the front door of the Walmart on Colonial Boulevard, just outside Lehigh Acres.

When the store’s greeter attempted to stop the suspect and ask him to provide a receipt for the TV, the suspect stated that his wife was on her way out of the checkout line, and would show her the receipt. He then quickly exited the store and loaded up the $700 television set into an SUV – possibly a Chevrolet.

Not surprisingly, there was no wife – and thus, no receipt, officials said.

Detectives are looking for any information on this individual, and where he may be located. Tips may be called into the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-780-TIPS

(8477). All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000. Tips may also be made online at “http://www.swflcrimestoppers.org”>www.swflcrimestoppers.org.
